Grizzly Bear – “Sleeping Ute”
By George Raphael, on 06 Jun 13, 2012
Remember Grizzly Bear? I hope so. Their song Two Weeks was a huge hit a few years back, and the album Veckatimest was absolutely one of the best albums of the year. They’ve been pretty silent since then, save a brief solo stint from a few of the members.
Though now, we bow down and graciously accept what the Bear heavens have bestowed upon us last week:
Beautiful. Fucking gnarly. Awe-inspiring. Grit-nasty. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height. In other words, this song is really good.
An oh-so-Grizzly Bear blend of 60′s psychedelia and soaring, crushing guitars, with thunderous and rocking rhythms, and the dizzying acoustic finger picking at the end is a wonderfully perplexing foundation for the beautiful melody sung with the swelling strings. I think it goes without saying that the album we are going to get out of this (on 9/18) will shadow our expectations for a follow-up to the majesty that was Veckatimest.
