Music Video: The Flaming Lips Cover “Knives Out” In Tribute Of Radiohead Tech

In Toronto, on Saturay, June 16th, tragedy struck. Moments before sound check and about an hour before doors opened in a park in Toronto, the scaffolding-like ceiling of the stage that would very shortly don Radiohead collapsed. Three were injured and tragically, one was killed. Radiohead‘s drum tech Scott Johnson‘s life was claimed by the awful accident. The show was canceled, and since then the band has released this statement:

We have all been shattered by the loss of Scott Johnson, our friend and colleague. He was a lovely man, always positive, supportive and funny; a highly skilled and valued member of our great road crew. We will miss him very much. Our thoughts and love are with Scott’s family and all those close to him.

Later that night, The Flaming Lips were performing in the same city. Wayn e Coyne had some touching words about the day followed by the band covering Radiohead‘s tune “Knives Out.”

(On a lighter note, I think “Thank you for your kind words!” is the best heckling I’ve ever heard.)
