The Music of Prince to Be Highlighted at Carnegie Hall

Prince has been selected as this year's artist whose music will be featured at the benefit for music education programs for the underprivileged. The show will be March 7 at Carnegie Hall.

The annual event is put on by Michael Dorf of City Winery and benefits such schools as the Church Street School of Music, the American Symphony Orchestra’s Music Notes, the Center for Arts Education and Little Kids Rock. Past honorees have included Bruce Springsteen, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Elton John and Bernie Taupin, R.E.M., the Who, Neil Young and the Rolling Stones.

The first of the artists have also been announced who will be performing that night. The house band will be the Roots with performances by Booker T, Living Colour, Talib Kweli, Madeline Peyroux, the Blind Boys of Alabama, DeVotchka, Mike Scott of the Waterboys and more artists to be announced.

Dorf said in a statement "Prince is one of the most prolific songwriters in my collection, and he makes my Top 10 when I think about the artists who have truly shaped modern music."
